Girls send 5 members to state meet - All earn all-state honors

It is a rare occurrence that all members of a team attending the state meet end the day having earned all-state honors, but that is just what each of the 5 members of Linden's girls track team achieved.

The day began with freshman Lauren Goodman in her 200 dash preliminary heat. She was not seeded well coming into the race, but she wanted to change that. She had an excellent race placing well in her heat and ended up with the 8th fastest time for the round. This earned her a trip to the finals later in the meet. In that race she held her 8th place position to also earn All-State honors!

Next up was the 4x200 relay team of Lani Manners, Kynleigh Copeland, Victoria Osmond and Lauren Goodman. This team was ranked 17th coming into the race, so a podium finish seemed unlikely. The girls had other ideas however and stormed to a huge season best time. When the dust settled of all the heats they bumped all the way up to 8th place for the Eagles second all-state honor of the day!

Finally we came to the 4x100 relay where the team of Lani Manners, Lauren Goodman, Kennedy Hoose and Victoria Osmond were the top ranked squad. The gun went off and Senior Lani Manners got the team off to a solid start, blasting out of the blocks and running the first curve with purpose and passion. She then handed off to freshman phenom Lauren Goodman. She kept the team neck and neck for the lead and passed the baton to Junior Kennedy Hoose. Kennedy leaned into the curve and made up a step or two on the top challenger in the lane to her right. Then the baton passed to the final leg of Junior Victoria Osmond. Two competitors attempted to make a surge and did momentarily pull up beside Victoria, but about 30 meters into the race it was clear that she was not going to let them pass as she turned on the jets and pulled away from the entire field, taking home the win and a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! The first relay state championship in Linden Girls Track and Field history. Oh yeah, they also demolished their own school record to a time of 50.36.
